Dan Mielke for Congress

 Why not Dave  Obey?

·       Thirty-eight years is too long to be in office:  There is a reason the president can only serve 8 years.  Power corrupts and absolute power corrupts absolutely!’ The intent of our republic was to allow the people to govern themselves.  When one holds political office from his youth on, he tends to lose touch with the reality of life outside of the political realm. He’s unable to relate to his constituents.”  Dan Mielke

·       His voting record is evidence that he needs to go:

o     Illegal Immigration:

§       Obey voted against an amendment to prohibit Social Security funds from being used to administer benefits accrued from work performed in Mexico.   Voted against H.R. 3043

§       Obey voted in favor of allowing illegal aliens to vote in union elections.  Voted against H.R. 800

§       Obey voted for sanctuary policies for illegal aliens in 2006.  Voted against H.R. 5441

§        Obey voted against a bill to bar drivers' licenses for illegal aliens in 2005. Voted against H.R. 418

§        Obey voted against border fence in 2006.  Voted against H.R. 5441

§        Since 1996 Congressman 0bey has voted against restricting immigration and in favor of promoting immigration on over 50 bills.

o     Tax Increases:

§        Obey voted for the largest tax increase in U.S History on March 29, 2007, $400 billion over 5 years.

o       Marriage:

§        Voted NO on constitutionally defining marriage as one-man-one-woman. (Jul 2006)

o        Anti-patriotic values:

§        Voted NO on protecting the Pledge of Allegiance. (Sep 2004)

§         Voted NO on constitutional amendment prohibiting flag desecration. (Jun 2003)

o     He Discriminates:

§         Voted NO on ending preferential treatment by race in college admissions. (May 1998)

§         Voted NO on subjecting federal employees to random drug tests. (Sep 1998)

§         Voted NO on vouchers for private & parochial schools. (Nov 1997)

§         Voted NO on allowing vouchers in DC schools. (Aug 1998)

o     Healthcare:

§         Voted NO on capping damages & setting time limits in medical lawsuits to lower healthcare costs. (Mar 2003)

§         Voted NO on limiting medical malpractice lawsuits to $250,000 damages. (May 2004)

§         Because of Obey’s weak stand on immigration, our healthcare industry has been burdened with billions of dollars of healthcare costs because of illegal immigrants who cannot or will not pay.  In the last ten years close to 100 hospitals have closed their doors in California alone due largely to this problem.

·        Obey circumvents public hearings and reviews in order to spend your taxpayers dollars by the use of earmarks.  An earmark is a line-item that is inserted into a bill to direct funds to a specific project or recipient without any public hearing or review. The Labor-HHS Appropriations Subcommittee members did very well. The 17 members bagged 150 earmarks at a cost of $39.6 million. Congressman Obey was responsible for one of the highest number of earmarks with a total of 12 with the highest total dollar amount.

o       Americans For Prosperity held a rally June 14th to call on Dave Obey to fulfill the Democrats' campaign promises to bring more transparency to the earmark process.  Will the real Dave Obey please stand up?

·        2% of Dave Obey's first quarter fundraising  in 2007 came from Wisconsin.  It has been publicized that 98% of Dave Obey's nearly $272,000 in campaign contributions came from special interest PACs in Washington, DC as well as 39 other states. 69% of contributions were from special interest PACs and 29% from out of state sources.

Who do you really think Dave Obey serves,

Washington DC or the 7th district?
